Memphis Blues Throws Its Weight Behind a Great Cause

Both Vancouver Memphis Blues Barbeque House Locations to Participate in ‘Dining Out For Life’ on Thursday, March 29th

George Siu and Park Heffelfinger, owners of the Memphis Blues Barbeque House group of restaurants, are pleased to announce that both the Broadway (1465 Broadway Avenue, Vancouver) and Commercial (1342 Commercial Drive, Vancouver) restaurants will be participating in this year’s Dining Out For Life on Thursday, March 29th, an annual charity event that raises money for AIDS service organizations.

Over 250 restaurants from Whistler to White Rock and across theFraserValleywill contribute 25% of their sales that day to people living with HIV/AIDS.  Participating restaurants have raised over $3 million for HIV/AIDS support services over 16 years.

Dining Out For Life is BC’s largest restaurant fundraiser, benefiting A Loving Spoonful and Friends For Life.

Numerous advances have been made in the field of HIV/AIDS research, helping people live happier and longer.  This progress could not have been possible without the support that comes through individual Canadians, and through organizations like Dining Out For Life.

George says, “I’m fortunate to not have had friends pass on from this terrible disease, however I do have friends that live with HIV every day. This disease has no boundaries, does not discriminate and has taken far too many lives. Whatever we can contribute to help find a cure we are happy to do so.

Park continues, “I have lost some great friends to AIDS in the past and have some who are living with it.  Anything I can do to help Canadians fighting this disease or assisting those that live with it is simply the right thing to do.

Invite your friends to Dine Out this March 29th.  For more information, as well as a c0mplete list of participating restaurants, please visit DiningOutForLife.com/Vancouver.

About Memphis Blues Barbeque House:

Launched by George Siu and Park Heffelfinger in Vancouverin September 2001, Memphis Blues Barbeque House celebrated its 10th anniversary last year, after serving tens of thousands of happy customers from all across the globe, winning dozens of awards, and garnering citywide and national acclaim – all in the name of spreading the juicy gospel of succulent, slow-roasted Southern baah-bee-cue.  Innovators from the start, they were the first casual self-serve restaurant in the city with a sophisticated twist to what is now a celebrated, but reasonably-priced wine list, recognized by Wine Access Magazine as being one of the ’50 Best Wine Restaurants in Canada’ three years in a row.  Memphis Blues also boasts one of the most extensive Bourbon selections in the city!

The boys have also released a best-selling cookbook, Memphis Blues Barbeque House – Bringin’ Southern BBQ Home (Whitecap Books, 2008), and have just released a series of unique Memphis Blues Rubs and Sauces. A sixth store is set to open in downtown Vancouver in May, and further expansion is planned for Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba in the coming months.  Memphis Blues has also extensively grown their catering division, and are a sought-after partner for weddings, corporate events, and more.  Now let’s eat!
