Okanagan Feast of Fields

JOIN US SUNDAY, AUGUST 21 AT VAN WESTEN FAMILY VINEYARDS & ORCHARDS IN NARAMATA FarmFolkCityFolk is pleased to announce the location and date for their 2011 Okangan Feast of Fields event. On Sunday, August 21, Van Westen Family Vineyards & Orchards will host this popular multi-course celebration of farming, food and wine in their stunning Naramata farm overlooking Okanagan Lake.

A sold out event in its first two years, Okanagan Feast of Fields is growing in recognition as it helps bring together the exceptional farm producers of the region with the local culinary talent. An estimated 30 teams will present guests with local ingredients, shaped by local chefs and served with local wines, beers or spirits. “It is like a wandering 30-course tasting menu featuring everything that is great about the Okanagan and Similkameen regions,” says Rhys Pender, the local event coordinator.

The Van Westen family has been farming for four generations, growing a variety of crops in beautiful Naramata. The host farm has a stunning view across Okanagan Lake and guests will sample the regions’ creations amongst the vineyards and under the shade of the 20-year old Lapin cherry trees.

Feast of Fields showcases the strong connections between farmer and chef and highlights producers of Okanagan wine, beer and artisanal food products. The area’s food and agricultural communities unite to present a fantastic culinary showcase while raising awareness of the importance and enjoyment of eating locally.

Profits from FarmFolkCityFolk’s annual fundraising event go toward this work in the Okanagan and throughout British Columbia. FarmFolkCityFolk recently launched Shared Harvest in three Okanagan regions and their provincial Biomass Trader. Shared Harvest is the Okanagan’s newest dating service – for food, while the Biomass Trader helps people “get their biomass together.” FarmFolkCityFolk will also be organizing several seed security workshops in the Okanagan this summer, working with local seed producers and farmers to create community seed groups.

This year, we are proud to introduce Bernardin Home Canning “Because you Can” – as our Gold Plate sponsor .We are also very pleased that Choices Markets will continue their Bronze Charger sponsorship for the third consecutive year.

Further details of who will be participating will be posted as participants are confirmed.
