From the Tourism Richmond Press Release:
Food authority website Eater recently released their top cities in the world worth traveling to eat in 2020 — and Richmond made the list. Known for their meticulously curated maps spotlighting each region’s essential restaurants and must-eat spots, they’ve narrowed it down to 19 different cities in the world for foodies to travel to in 2020, specifically for the culinary scene.
“It’s no secret to locals that Richmond has a diverse and strong culinary scene,” said Nancy Small, chief executive officer of Tourism Richmond. “We also know the 800 plus restaurants in the city can be overwhelming. So, when food and travel authorities like Eater and New York Times give Richmond their seal of approval, it legitimizes what we already know to a much wider, global audience.”
The Eater list, Where to Eat in 2020, was curated by their vast network of culinary experts across the globe. Coupled with on-the-ground research, local input, and reference to their own personal notes, the collection of cities in Eater Travel’s first-ever list of the most dynamic food cities in the world.
Richmond’s map on Eater doesn’t just focus on its Asian culinary scene. Seattle-based food writer Jay Friedman took his research one step further — by visiting each location and sampling a variety of their dishes. As such, the list has become a global map of culinary delights highlighting restaurants, bakeries and eateries such as AnAr Persian Cuisine, Lamajoun, Wild Sweets, Fuggles & Warlock and many others. Check out the full list here.
“It’s an honour to be recognized by Eater as one of the most dynamic food cities in the world,” remarked Small. “We invite everyone to discover our culinary scene, and for locals to try something new, or rediscover old favourites.”
