The brothers behind some of the city’s most beloved Italian restaurants are preparing to open a new Yaletown spot inspired by family, tradition, and the kind of pasta dinners that bring everyone to the table.

Named after their grandmother, Rosalia Osteria will open later this summer at 1127 Mainland St. from Dom and Frank Morra, the team behind Via Tevere, Don’t Argue Pizza, Dante Italian Sandwich, and Straight Outta Brooklyn.

The intimate 33-seat restaurant will focus on house-made pasta, with a menu rooted in Italian culinary traditions, Italian-American favourites, and family recipes passed down through generations.

“Sunday dinner at Nonna’s” is the inspiration behind the concept, with shareable antipasti, seasonal salads, classic desserts, and a drinks program designed to complement the pasta-focused menu.

Rosalia will occupy a compact 600-square-foot space designed by Tomlenovich Design. The room will feature soft rose tones and European-inspired details, while a 20-seat courtyard patio is expected to become one of Yaletown’s more charming spots for an evening meal. Of the restaurant’s 33 seats, 13 will be indoors and 20 outdoors.

For the Morra brothers, the opening marks a natural next step after building loyal followings at Via Tevere and their other concepts. Rather than expanding into a larger format, Rosalia aims to create the feeling of a neighbourhood Italian osteria where the focus remains on simple, well-executed food and hospitality.

Rosalia Osteria is expected to open in late summer and will operate seven days a week from 4 p.m. until late.
