Benefit the Hopeful Hand

Bring on the tailored suits, chic pencil dresses, ruby-red lipstick and classic cocktails. On Thursday May 26th, 2011, Michael Eckford and Fiona Forbes of Shaw TV’s Urban Rush will host a fabulous Mad Men-themed evening in skoah’s flagship Yaletown store to benefit the Hopeful Hand charity.

While grooving to retro remixes spun by DJ Leanne, well-heeled guests will mingle while savouring fresh chucked oysters from Granville Oyster Co. and sampling food from Licious Living and top Vancouver restaurants Cibo Trattoria, Grouse Mountain Observatory Restaurant, Hamilton Street Grill, Society and glowball grill . The Donnelly Group’s Bar and Beverage Director Trevor Kallies will mix Mad Men-themed Svedka Vodka cocktails, while the OPEN Wine Collection and Caffè Artigiano will treat guests to delicious wines and artisanal coffee. Attendees wearing Don and Betty Draper-inspired duds will enjoy the silent auction, deluxe gift bags and balloon raffle.

The Hopeful Hand supports the parents of ill and terminally ill children through BC Children’s Hospital Foundation and Alberta Children’s Hospital. Over the years, skoah has pampered parents of children accessing the hospital with their ‘facialiscious’ facial, in order to give them the care they deserve. skoah has also donated money raised through various events and the sale of the ‘Hopeful Hand’ lotion (donating 100 per cent of the proceeds).

skoah’s donated funds have been put to great use. Several years ago, the hospital built a ‘tranquilty room’ for parents to relax, read, practice yoga or reflect in. This year, furniture was purchased for the newly opened Parent and Family Resource Centre at BC Children’s Hospital. Partners in Care, the parent advocacy group at BC Children’s Hospital, used the funds to support families by sending parents to out-of-town conferences related to their child’s condition.

skoah’s Hopeful Hand charity gala takes place on Thursday, May 26th from 7-10 pm at skoah Yaletown (1011 Hamilton Street). Tickets are $125 each (with a portion eligible for a tax receipt) and can be purchased at skoah Yaletown or online at www.hopefulhand.com.
