Guests to the resort will be treated to live entertainment with two days of performances over the weekend at the new Whistler Olympic Plaza. On Saturday and Sunday, October 8 and 9, children’s entertainers Bobs and Lolo will perform onstage. Tickets are $10 per child (no charge for parents) and are available at whistler.com. Free shows take place Saturday afternoon with Whistler’s own Animal Nation performing at 3 p.m. and the Wassabi Collective, from Nelson, B.C. onstage at 4:15 p.m. The entertainment continues on Sunday, with a free performance by the Montreal-based trio Hellbound Hepcats at 3 p.m. followed by Five Alarm Funk at 4:15 p.m.

Opening day for the 2011/ 2012 winter season at Whistler Blackcomb is scheduled for November 24. Last year was the resort’s second snowiest on record, with Whistler and Blackcomb mountains accumulating more than 51 feet of powder. This year, meteorologists are calling for another La Niña weather pattern which means cooler temperatures and consistent heavy precipitation.  With opening day only two months away, Whistler is buzzing with pre-winter anticipation.

New this Winter Season

Guests to Whistler this winter can revolutionize their mountain experience by downloading the new Whistler Blackcomb Live, powered by TELUS App to their smart phone. View trail maps, track runs using GPS, and measure the total vertical and distance travelled, as well as other features. Plus, share all your sweet stats with friends on Facebook and Twitter.

The new Dave Murray National Training Centre is being constructed on Whistler Mountain which will serve as a training ground for guests and future Olympians and Paralympians. Plus, the renewed Snow Cross Track and Olympic Size Half Pipe on Blackcomb Mountain is launching with a 14-foot half pipe helping athletes transition into the 22-foot Olympic feature.

Visitors to Whistler can get a taste of Olympic thrills with new public programs at the Whistler Sliding Centre. Beginning in December, guests can now enjoy bobsleigh rides (in addition to skeleton rides which were launched last season) on the Olympic track. At speeds of between 90 -130 km/hr, adrenaline junkies will get their fix.
