Get the inside track on the most anticipated event of the summer
The event that changed the way Vancouver plays, The Deighton Cup, runs for its sixth summer on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the storied Hastings Racecourse (188 N. Renfrew St.), from 12 pm to 6 pm.
Named after legendary Vancouver saloon owner John “Gassy Jack” Deighton, The Deighton Cup is a full afternoon of heart-stopping horse racing, fearless fashion and masterful mixology, co-produced by Cocktails & Canapes and The Social Concierge.
This year, the Deighton Cup offers three ways to go off to the races:
- Thoroughbred Marquee Experience ticket holders ($75) can look forward to eight adrenaline-pumping horse races, a complimentary welcome craft cocktail, a picnic-style lunch created by Cocktails & Canapes, an exhibition of exotic supercars and performance vehicles in the Mile’s End Motors Field of Dreams, live entertainment by 10-piece afro-funk band Miami Vice, and a pétanque tourney (French bocci ball)
- The Cocktail Jockey Mixology Competition ticket holders ($150) will access the full Thouroughbred Marquee Experience as well as admission to the 2nd Annual Cocktail Jockey Mixology Competition, presented by Bulleit Bourbon. Get shaken and stirred as the city’s top bartenders compete before an all-star bar panel to win bragging rights and $1,000 cash. The competition to create the ultimate Old Fashioned will take place in the custom-constructed Jockey Lounge on the roof of the Hastings Racetrack and the winning recipe will be featured on bottleneck tags of Bulleit Bourbon in all BC liquor stores.
- V.I.P. Experience Corporate Hosting ticket holders ($2,500 for 8 guests) for this ultimate indulgence will enjoy the full Thouroughbred Marquee Experience. In addition, they will receive reserved seating on the Champagne Trackside Stage, a branded company placard, three bottles of premium Champagne and tableside lunch service.
The Deighton Cup encourages its guests to sport their best racing attire; every ticket holder will be automatically entered into The Style Stakes and Gallant Sartorial Awards, presented by Market One Media Group. A panel of judges including renowned local designer Jason Matlo and Deighton Cup Style Director Crystal Carson, will choose the 10 best-dressed attendees who will then flaunt their looks before a celebrity fashion panel. The most stylish lady and daringly dapper gentleman will be awarded the coveted Style Stakes and Gallant Sartorial Awards, respectively, along with a generous cash prize from Market One Media Group and their name engraved on the Deighton Cup for posterity.
