The Happy Halibut Pops Up In Kitsilano

With new limited hours our restaurants have been once again challenged to reinvent ways to both add value to customers and attempt to make up the loss of income they’re experiencing. The owner of Yaggers, Trevor Poirier, Tom Poirier and Dan Wood brainstormed ideas to survive in these trying COVID times and decided to focus on increasing business at lunch time.  Noticing there was a lack of fish and chip shops in Kitsilano, they decided that they’d do a pop-up fish and chip shop at the restaurant during weekdays from noon until 3:30 pm.

“We wanted to create a concept that would be still great for dine in, but also quick for take-out since not everyone working gets an hour at lunch time.
We did some research and realized outside of Granville Island there aren’t any fish and chips shops in Kits”, stated Trevor Poirier.
If all goes well, The Happy Halibut pop up shop will open the middle next week and operate out of Yagger’s Kits on Monday to Friday, when the sports pub will be transformed into a family friendly Fish ‘N Chips spot from 12-3:30pm.

Poirier is aiming for “West Coast Fish, with a little East Coast Flair” and will be serving beer-battered Pacific cod, sockeye salmon and halibut with Old Bay tartar sauce, salt and vinegar seasoned fries, and a sweet buttermilk apple slaw. They’re also promising a killer seafood chowder!
To tie into the logo of a Schooner boat, they’ll are also offering up “Mini Schooners” a 10oz mug of beer for $3 and a “Canadian Schooner”, a 32oz mug of beer for $8.

The patio with be transformed with The Happy Halibut signage and fishing decor, think nets, buoys, and life preservers, and they’re putting old school checker paper tablecloths down. You may even see some staff wearing pirate hats!
