The Wet Spots were inspired to create the East Side Spectacular by their time working with the Olivier-Award-Winning variety show La Clique in London’s West End.
“In La Clique, there were amazing acts on the bill but much of the magic came from how they would whiz your attention around the venue – one performer might end his dance number by freezing in place and then being lifted and carried away by the strong man from the next segment. You were really taken on a journey of amazement. We want to bring that fast pace and fluidity to a Vancouver stage.”
But be warned though – this is not a show for everyone. The Wet Spots are known for their raunchy, adult-themed songs which include such favourites as “Do You Take It In the Ass?” and “The Perversions of Yesteryear”. Their act has won numerous theatrical awards in Canada, the USA and Australia, and they have performed at such venues as Massey Hall, The Sydney Opera House, The London Hippodrome and the Public Theater in New York City.
This smart, sexy sensibility runs throughout the show, with burlesque dance, blue stand-up comedy, weird short films and decidedly naughty outrageous variety.
“So much theatrical entertainment these days is geared towards a family market” says Woods. “It’s good to have a night of music, dance, film and comedy that’s a little more sex, drugs and rock n’ roll.”
