Vancouver Olympic-Themed Culinary Offerings

rsz_putins_prideCanada is already ahead in the medals, but what are we doing for them here at home?  I’ve been able to find a couple Olympic culinary offerings and I’ll be adding to this list as we get further into the spirit. GLV

Cascades at The Pan Pacific

Pan Pacific Vancouver has created an “Olympic Cheering Centre” in the Cascades Bistro. FFebruary 7th to 23rd, watch Canada’s Olympians and enjoy Sochi-themed drinks and appetizers. Anyone who comes wearing 2010 Olympic mittens will be entered into a draw for Pacific Club Floor Getaway Package. The winner will be drawn right after the closing ceremonies on February 23rd.

Cascades Bistro has been transformed with Olympic décor and memorabilia and Executive Chef Bob Wiles and his team have come up with a Sochi-themed menu including specially-imported Russian beer, Baltika 7, along with special drinks and appetizers including:

Baltika 7 (Russian beer)
Moscow Mule cocktail -– blend of vodka & ginger beer, fresh mint and lime juice.
Buckwheat Blinis with smoked salmon rolls & dill
Tuna Tartar in savory sesame cones, flying fish roe
Chicken “Shish Kabob”, cucumber-beet yoghurt dip
Beef Stroganoff slider on Russian rye bun with pickled vegetables.

Pidgin

Putin’s Pride – Robyn Gray has mixed Mount Gay Rum, Cointreau, pineapple syrup, and coconut water and is garnished the drink ice cubes. “Leave this colourful cocktail sitting for long enough and watch it transform into a mixture that resembles Sochi tap water without the muddy aftertaste”.

milano

Milano Coffee

One of our favourite coffee shops honours the Olympics with an espresso tasting of three of their gold medal winners. Vancouver’s Milano Coffee is offering the Gold Medal Espresso Tasting Trio $6.50  at all three Milano Coffee locations.

First in line is La Futura, a luscious, aromatic and intricately complex blend of 10 premium Arabica varietals. With vanilla and floral notes, it’s a smooth combination which leaves a lingering toffee aftertaste.  Next up is Lucky 13, an extremely technical mix of, you guessed it, 13 coffee bean varietals expertly blended to create a dynamic and delicious espresso fusion.  Rounding out the gold medal line-up is Nuovo, a marriage of eight premium rain forest, small farm and shade grown varietals creating one to die for espresso blend trio.
