About the Leeteg Room at The Waldorf Hotel
A warm nighttime space that lends itself to socializing, our dining room, the second restaurant in the Waldorf complex, has been named after famed artist and philanderer Edgar Leeteg whose works are featured prominently throughout the hotel. An ex-pat working in the Polynesian Islands, Leeteg pioneered a dark and exotic style of painting using vivid oil colour on black velvet. Earning a reputation as the “American Gauguin”, his talent made him a hugely popular artist and his dissolute lifestyle made him a legend. Leeteg was a fierce individualist who had no use for mainstream society, proclaiming: “My paintings belong in a gin mill, not a museum.” The indulgent Spanish menu, created by Ernesto Gomez (Nuba), Pedro Martin (Jaleo) and Cesar de la Parra (Nuba), was inspired with the spirit of Leeteg in mind, and is made for sharing and savouring.
