We Heart Local Awards

LOVE LOCAL, WIN BIG: IT’S THE THIRD ANNUAL WE HEART LOCAL AWARDS!

Why not recognize someone in your community by nominating them for these awards. You have until Sept 6 to nominate and then voting begins. You can vote daily, which can be a bit of an effort, but it’s worth it if you you truly love local.

From the release:

Get ready to show your favourites a little love: it’s time for the third annual We Local Awards! For the last three years, the people’s choice awards have highlighted the most popular food and agriculture businesses across the province. Your vote not only helps spread the word about locals doing great things, it shows producers how loved they are by their communities. To get you inspired, we asked our favourite local ambassadors to tell us who they’d nominate (and we’ve included their social info so that you can give them a little local love too!). Meet this year’s 15 awards categories and your local ambassadors below.

This prize includes a $300 gift card for BC Ferries to cover the cost of ferry transportation to Quadra Island. The Grand Prize winner will be drawn on September 15, 2015. Now, if you participated in the WHL awards last year, you’ll remember Taku Resort’s amazing family story. We caught up with Erin Rowsell Taku’s Cookery Manager, to find out what’s fresh this year.We Heart Local: What kinds of ingredients will Taku be featuring in their cooking courses this year? Erin Rowsell: We LOVE featuring local products from Quadra Island and the Comox Valley in our cooking courses.  When in season we always highlight our local seafoods – oysters, mussels, spot prawns, halibut, wild salmon, scallops and so so much more.  There is a beautiful farm – Granite Bay Farm –  that both helps us grow food on the property as well as supplying gorgeous farm eggs and luscious produce! We serve Island-roasted Aroma coffee and locally harvested Red Cedar teas! The Comox Valley has so much to offer including creamy cheeses, organic meats and beautiful, seasonal produce. WHL: Why is supporting a contest like WHL important to Taku? ER: We are teaming up with WHL because we love what you do.  We love promoting local farmers, fishers, hunters and growers in our own community and then of course love all the other BC producers as well.  We believe strongly in supporting sustainable food practices and voting with our forks, and what better way than to partner with other folks doing the same work, such as WHL!
