THE WELL SEASONED BBQ ON THE BYPASS IS SET TO SIZZLESEPTEMBER 13th IN LANGLEY

The Fraser Valley’s premiere BBQ competition turns up the heat with the BC BBQ Championship plus more competitors, more BBQ samples and more FREE family fun!

Where’s the best place to try some of the region’s best barbequed food? At the fourth annual Well Seasoned BBQ on the Bypass in Langley on Sunday, September 13th from 10 am – 4 pm. This free public event will be the ultimate barbeque extravaganza and fun for the whole family! Watch and sample from dozens of competitive barbeque teams as they try to smoke the competition in this “slow and low” southern style BBQ cook off.

Throughout the event, teams will be preparing meats in five categories – chicken, ribs, beef brisket, pork and an open choice category called “Anything But”, which this year will be turkey. All of the entries must be prepared to code and then graded for superior quality, flavour and presentation by a panel of 18 judges certified by the Pacific Northwest BBQ Association. The team with the highest overall points will be crowned the Grand Champion; and the team that scores the most points at all participating provincial barbeque events will be crowned the BC BBQ Champion with cash prize payouts of up to $1,000.

“We’re so pleased to see how popular slow cook southern-style barbeque has become in B.C. and that our attendance continues to rise year after year,” said Angie Quaale, Event Manager of the BBQ on the Bypass and Owner of Well Seasoned gourmet food store. “This year we’ll have double the number of BBQ teams competing from last year and are expecting several thousand people to attend. We hope anyone who loves great barbeque food will join us for lots of excitement on September 13th.”

This not-for-profit event is designed to introduce more people to “real BBQ” while providing competitive teams with an opportunity to hone their skills. As an internationally sanctioned cook off, the Well Seasoned BBQ on the Bypass brings world class competitive teams from across Western Canada and the U.S. to Langley to compete for cash prizes and awards including the BC BBQ Cup. Teams will start cooking at 7:00 pm on the evening of Saturday, September 12th and will turn in their entries to be judged every hour on the hour after 11:00 am on Sunday, September 13th. The winners will be announced at approximately 4:00 p.m. The event will be emceed by local food columnist and culinary instructor, Chef Dez with entertainment provided by local indie bad, “OS5”.
