Glenmorangie’s newest limited-edition single malt is a journey through scent, colour, and imagination. A Tale of Spices, the sixth release in the distillery’s award-winning A Tale Of… series, draws inspiration from the kaleidoscope of flavours found in bustling spice markets around the globe.

Finished for the first time in four distinct cask types, including an experimental maturation in Moroccan red wine casks, this release is a richly aromatic expression layered with ginger, saffron, nutmeg, sugared almonds, and warm spice. It’s a whisky built for curious palates — and a stunning addition for collectors and holiday gifting.

A Whisky Born from Imagination

For more than 180 years, Glenmorangie has built its reputation on elegance, creativity, and a willingness to push boundaries. Under the direction of Dr. Bill Lumsden MBE, the distillery’s creators continue to turn sensory memories into pioneering single malts.

This latest expression marries whisky aged in:

  • Moroccan red wine casks (French oak) — bringing exotic, perfumed spice
  • New charred oak — adding bold, toasty warmth
  • Shaved & toasted red wine casks — offering fruity richness
  • Pedro Ximénez sherry casks — deepening sweetness

The result is a beautifully complex single malt brimming with cumin, ginger, chilli heat, saffron, rose, jasmine, sugared almonds, and even a whisper of eucalyptus.

Presented in a vibrant mosaic-inspired gift box, A Tale of Spices visually mirrors the conical piles of saffron, turmeric, and cardamom found in the markets that sparked its creation.

Marrakech Old Fashioned

A sultry, spiced riff perfect for fall gatherings, designed to highlight the saffron, ginger, and citrus notes of Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 oz Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices
  • 1/4 oz saffron honey syrup
  • 2 dashes orange bitters
  • 1 star anise garnish

Method
 

  1. Add the whisky, saffron-honey syrup, and orange bitters to a mixing glass filled with ice.
  2. Stir until well-chilled and silky, about 20–25 seconds.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube.
  4. Express an orange peel over the drink and garnish with the peel and a star anise pod. (Slice a thin, clean piece of orange peel (zest), avoiding too much bitter white pith. Hold the peel with the colored side facing down over the drink, with your fingers on the edges. Gently but firmly twist or bend the peel to force the essential oils out in a fine spray over the drink. You can then rub the peel around the rim for more flavor, drop it in the drink, or discard it, depending on the recipe.)

Elegant, floral, and refreshingly aromatic.

  • 1.5 oz Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices
  • 0.5 oz rose syrup (go light to avoid overpowering)
  • Top with premium soda water
  • Garnish: dried rose petals or a lemon twist

Why it works: lifts the jasmine-rose aromatics already in the whisky, while the highball format keeps it bright and sessionable.

3. Spiced Almond Sour

Nutty, silky, and perfectly balanced for the holidays.

  • 2 oz Glenmorangie A Tale of Spices
  • 3/4 oz almond orgeat
  • 3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 dash aromatic bitters
  • Optional: egg white or aquafaba for a foamy top
  • Garnish: freshly grated nutmeg

Why it works: plays up the whisky’s sugared almond and warm baking spice profile with just enough citrus to keep things lifted.

4. Ginger & Red Wine Manhattan

A bold, wintery cocktail with depth and complexity.

  • 1 oz spiced sweet vermouth
  • 1 bar spoon red wine reduction
  • Garnish: brandied cherry
