Goldfish Seafood & Chops raises funds for the Vancouver Native Health Society

Summer Splash gathers close to $50,000 for non-profit group

It was the most glamorous of nights; where the beautiful people wore their finest outfits and the models donned their teeniest bikinis; where salsa dancers burned up the floor and where all those attending gave up their time and their money to support a charity benefitting Vancouver’s most in need.

This year’s Summer Splash, held on the first full day of summer, June 22nd 2011, raised almost $50,000 – an incredible figure which all goes to the Vancouver Native Health Society.

“We are just delighted with the results of the evening – we have raised an incredible amount of money for an extremely worthwhile cause,” says Dotty Kanke, Goldfish owner and philanthropist. “This year’s Summer Splash had such great support and we are very grateful for everyone’s generous donations.”

Acclaimed designer Anna Kosturova made a triumphant return to the venue with a fashion show featuring her beautiful and revealing bikini and swimwear designs and with the support of Sports Illustrated itself, guests were able to leave with a copy of this year’s Swimsuit Edition. A little edge was provided by Azzkikr Customs owner Len Edmondson of Face the Wind motorcycles – a chance for Beauty to meet the Beast. Several incredible motorcycles were on display outside Goldfish, stopping traffic and winning some serious attention from the Yaletown passers-by.

Guests were able to taste “Summer Bites” canapés from the new menu, courtesy of Chef  Scott Pratico, who served up Pulled Pork Steam Buns, Lobster Tempura, Chilled Seafood Terrine and fresh oysters to name just a few; as well, samples of Duckhorn Wines and martinis were on offer.

A salsa dance performance kept guests entertained – and the live auction featured items such as a specially commissioned painting by Tiko Kerr and a dinner at the Kanke’s water front residence, catered by Goldfish corporate Chef Pratico and hosted by Global BC News anchor Chris Gailus.

Doreen Littlejohn, Nurse Coordinator of The Positive Outlook Clinic at VNHS commented: “This is the third year Goldfish Pacific Kitchen’s Summer Splash event has raised a significant sum of money for our organization.  Last year we were able to install two brand new kitchens – this year the money means we will be able to provide even more of the services that are so vital to the 150 people who come through our door each day.”
