Good Life’s Top Oz Picks at – BCLDB – Austalian Theme for October

In September I tasted through some great Aussie Wines featured in October at the BCLDB.  Here are a few of my picks and some news from the BCLDB.

Banrock Station Sparkling Chardonnay – $12.99 – Great value for everyday drinking, while special enough to pop the cork and celebrate with.  Melon, apple, citrus with good acidity.

Yalumba Y Serier Viognier – $18.99 – Lovely floral aromas of blossoms, spice with a touch of nuttiness.  Grapefruit, peach, lemon and ginger on the palate.  Great solo sipper or with some sushi.

Cooralook Pinot Noir 2008 – $20.38 – Lots of dark, plum and chocolate on this smooth and luscious Pinot.  Great with game dishes, turkey and duck.

Grant Burge Barossa Vines Shiraz 2008 – $18.99 – Steal at this price.  Rich and ripe with lots of red fruit, leather, vanilla, and a smooth creamy finish.  Great with steak.

Chapel Hills Parsons Nose Shiraz 2008 – $19.99 – Another great value with ripe fruit, plum, oak and subtle tannins. Hints of blueberry and licorice.

Skillogalee Basket Presse Shiraz 2006 – $27.99 – Worth the extra few dollars here, this shiraz is an intense and full body wine with plum, eucalyptus, leather and spice.  Good acidity and tannins mean the wine could cellar, but a quick decant and you’ve got a great roast lamb wine.

De Bortoli Emeri Pink Moscato – $16.99 – A feminine little number that is full of raspberry, strawberry. Lively and fresh.  Try with some oysters or sip solo.

Innoscent Bystander Moscato 2009 – $13.99 (375 ml) – A lovely floral little number that tastes of fresh strawberry, peach, and has a creamy finish.  Great gift wine meant to be drunk young.

Penfolds Grandfather Tawny Port – $84.99 – If you have money for a splurge pick up this grandaddy.  Caramel, raisin, whisky, aromoas and flavours.  Dry and luscious with plenty on the finish.  Sip slowly with chocolate and nuts.  Of course fireside, if possible.
