Experience Cocktails, Live Music, and BBQ At The PNE Fairgrounds
The producers of 24th Annual Hopscotch Festival have been working hard to develop their new summer festival and are proud to announce: PUNCHBOWL: A FESTIVAL OF COCKTAILS & BBQ. This outdoor summer tasting event will welcome over 3,000 Vancouverites who will be shown how to properly use the very spirits they see and love.
Presented by Gordon Food Service & Intercity Packers, the 1st Annual PUNCHBOWL will be located at The PNE Fairgrounds on Saturday, July 27th. This festival will include over 50 different beverage vendors, each showcasing a different cocktail. “Most of the cocktails will be 3-step drinks and easy to make” said Adam Bloch, Executive Director of PUNCHBOWL. “The idea of PUNCHBOWL is to show our attendees that the internationally and locally produced spirits, beers, ciders can be mixed with simple ingredients to make delicious cocktails at home.” Vancouver’s craft cocktail science is regarded as one of the best in the world but the drinks that consumers are trying when they are out at their favorite haunts are often too intimidating to make at home.
PUNCHBOWL is designed to provide local and international alcoholic beverage companies the opportunity to educate attendees on how to mix their spirits with simple ingredients with the overall goal to spark their interest in cocktail culture.
This summer event will not only showcase cocktails but delicious BBQ’d faire from several of Vancouver’s best restaurant establishments. Chefs already confirmed to attend are Sean Reeve (MacKenzie Room), Liam Breen (Verre), Ian McHale (Wildebeest) amongst others. Alongside the latter will be a “smoker throwdown” where the equally highly awarded Dixies BBQ and Smoke & Bones BBQ battle it out in a consumer’s choice style competition. There will be live music throughout the event by ‘The Big Easy Funk Ensemble”, a 9-piece funk ensemble, whose southern roots style music will be the perfect backdrop to the tastings.
Co-producing the event is Dax Droski, best known for his role in creating and producing one of Vancouver’s largest annual events – The Deighton Cup. Similar to other festivals, guests will purchase tokens as a means to order samples and food. PUNCHBOWL will be both a daytime and evening tasting.
