Spiced Rum Cocktails for a Spooky Night In
Costumes are optional. Popcorn is not. If your Halloween plans involve a few friends and a familiar film, a cocktail to match the movie is a fun place to start.
Sailor Jerry has shared three spiced rum recipes inspired by Halloween, Beetlejuice and Hocus Pocus. There’s a simple rum and cola, an apple-and-lime cocktail with a little fizz, and a berry-filled drink for an evening with the Sanderson sisters. Pick your film, put out the snacks and make the one that suits the night.

Halloween: Rum and Cola
The 1978 horror classic gets the simplest pairing of the three. Sailor Jerry’s version uses an orange peel garnish and a short measure of cola, so expect a rum-forward drink.
Makes one cocktail
- 1½ oz Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum
- 1 oz Coca-Cola
- Orange peel, to garnish
- Ice
Pour the rum and cola into a glass filled with ice. Stir gently and garnish with orange peel.
Beetlejuice: Apple, Lime and Spiced Rum
Apple juice, fresh lime and lemon-lime soda make a bright, fizzy pairing for the 1988 film. Cut the apple garnish just before serving so it looks its best.
Makes one cocktail
- 1½ oz Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum
- 1 oz apple juice
- ½ oz fresh lime juice
- ½ oz simple syrup
- 2 oz lemon-lime soda
- Green apple slice, to garnish
- Ice
Add the rum, apple juice, lime juice and simple syrup to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake, then strain into a glass filled with fresh ice. Top with lemon-lime soda and garnish with a green apple slice.
Hocus Pocus: Blackberry and Cranberry Rum Cocktail
For a screening of the 1993 film, this berry cocktail combines blackberry liqueur with cranberry juice and lime. A splash of soda water finishes it off.
Makes one cocktail
- 1½ oz Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum
- 1 oz blackberry liqueur
- 2 oz cranberry juice
- ¾ oz fresh lime juice
- ½ oz simple syrup
- Splash of soda water
- Blackberries, to garnish
- Ice
Shake the rum, blackberry liqueur, cranberry juice, lime juice and simple syrup with ice. Strain into a rocks glass filled with fresh ice. Add a splash of soda water and garnish with blackberries.
Settle In for Movie Night
Keep the food easy to eat from the sofa: popcorn, a cheese board, something salty and a bowl of Halloween chocolate. Set out sparkling water and an alcohol-free option alongside the cocktails, then let the argument over which film to watch begin.
