Spinnakers Serves Up Whisky Perfect Pairings

Springbank’s International Ambassador Peter Currie to Attend

Bring on the malts! Spinnakers Gastro Brewpub and Guesthouses knows its malts – and now they are ready to serve up some of the best of the whisky variety.

This coming January 21st, 2010, Spinnakers will welcome Springbank’s International Ambassador Peter Currie for an evening of sumptuous food and whisky pairings.

“It’s an honour to have someone of Peter Currie’s stature to help us lead and kick off what we are hoping will be a series of whisky events,” says owner and publican Paul Hadfield. “From beer and chocolate to beer and cheese, we have tremendous fun pairing up unique and special flavours, and whisky is a continuation of us testing ourselves and reflects our commitment to quality and originality”.

The whisky dinner will be a delectable five course dinner finely tuned to the intricacies of five top-shelf whiskies in what Hadfield terms “part social mixer, part whisky tasting, part culinary adventure,” and will feature Currie, Whisky Magazine’s 2010 Young Ambassador of the Year, as honoured guest and featured speaker.  Springbank was also named Whisky Magazine’s 2010 Distillery of the Year.

“This is a unique occasion – of the five featured whiskies, only two are available in BC,” says Spinnakers co-host for the evening Dustin Sepkowski. “We’re doing something that’s been done in the past, but now we are taking it to a whole new level.”

Hosted on the eve of the Victoria Whisky Festival, the event begins with casual mingling at 6 pm when arriving guests are treated to their choice of one of Spinnakers renowned draught brews and appetizers.  On hand will be a very special cask-conditioned Oatmeal Stout that has been infused with a bottle of Springbank 15, which Sepkowski adds is “absolutely delicious.” A flavour-paired dessert will be matched up to the final whisky, and the 50 guests lucky enough to attend the special event will be given a souvenir Spinnakers Glencairn glass.

“The value of this event really appeals to people who are whisky geeks like myself, and to those who want to learn.” says Sepkowski.
