Surrey Farmers Market Harvest Farm Tour

on

Surrey is much more than Canada’s fastest growing city. With such a diverse population, the Surrey Urban Farmers’ Market is home to more that 20 vendors supplying everything from heirloom vegetables and fresh fruit, to artisanal baked goods and handmade crafts. On September 22, the Market goes mobile, with several vendors opening their gates and offering tours, tastings, and of course their morning harvest will be available for purchase. This 1st Annual Self-Guided Farm Tour is the best way to discover where your food is grown, meet the farmers and get a “taste” of fresh. Maps for the self-guided tour will be available at the Market on Wednesday, at each of the participating tour locations on Saturday, and will be published in the Surrey Now Newspaper Thursday September 20th.

This tour has something for everyone; entertainment from favourite local musician David Linker, hot buttered corn and BBQ from Hearthstone Meats, a food cart at Rondriso Farms and local wine tasting and organic apple juice at Rivers Bend Winery. Anne Janzen, Farm Tour Coordinator – and Manager of the Surrey Urban Farmers Market, says “September is truly the best month we have for harvest and the farmers are keen to swing open their barn doors to welcome the public into their livelihood.Taking a market “mobile” really lets people appreciate where their food comes from, and takes us back to the community of local food, which Farmers’ Markets are all about.”

About Surrey Farmers’ Market

The Surrey Urban Farmers’ Market marks its 5th consecutive season. The market features over 20 local farmers, prepared food vendors, food trucks, fresh flowers, and artisans each week. Each week the market hosts local musicians on the Central City Stage, sponsored by Central City Brewing, located across the street in the mall.  Children’s crafts in the Lil’ Sprouts area feature innovative and inspiring activities to both entertain and educate the little ones. Visitors to the market can also takeadvantage of a used book exchange, recycled battery drop off and a water bottle refill station.  The Surrey Urban Farmers Market strives to be the go-to destination for taking out of town guests, by offering a broad selection of local delicacies, aboriginal crafts, and family entertainment. The central location makes for a convenient stop on the way to or from the mall, new library, North Surrey Rec. Center, or Skytrain, and there is ample free parking for market shoppers.
