Vancouver’s luxury district has a new destination for Mexican cuisine. ACUYO, now open at 1140 Alberni Street, is bringing refined, regional Mexican flavours to downtown Vancouver with handmade tortillas, fire-driven cooking, and a menu rooted in tradition.

Founded by four partners with roots in Guadalajara, ACUYO was created to showcase the depth and elegance of Mexican food beyond the familiar. The restaurant’s name comes from the Indigenous word for hoja santa, the aromatic Mexican herb often used in regional cooking.

Traditional Mexican Flavours, Refined for Vancouver
Head Chef Rafael Chavez leads the kitchen with a focus on traditional techniques, regional diversity, and dishes designed for sharing. The menu will continue to evolve monthly, highlighting different areas of Mexico and seasonal ingredients.
“ACUYO is founded on honoring traditional techniques and regional diversity,” says Chef Rafael Chavez. “We’ve built our concept around the ‘calor’ of every detail, from the food to the experience.”
That idea of calor runs through the room as well. The 84-seat space, designed with décor sourced from Mexico, blends earth tones, textured walls, bar seating, and dining tables into a warm, polished setting.

Lunch, Dinner, Happy Hour and Late-Night Bites
ACUYO is open for lunch, happy hour, dinner, and late-night happy hour, making it a full-day addition to Alberni Street.
