A pineapple galette has made its way onto this week’s cooking list, the Bronco Sport is about to leave the driveway, and there are more dinner plans to make. Here’s the start of this week’s Sunday Edit.
On the cookbook pile: Comemos

This week on my cookbook pile: Comemos: Plant-Forward Recipes Celebrating Contemporary Mexican Cuisine by Alejandra Graf. Its 85 recipes put vegetables at the centre of the table, with variations to keep vegans, vegetarians and omnivores happily fed. The pineapple galette caught my eye: inspired by the pineapple-filled cookies and empanadas Graf grew up eating, it turns a can of pineapple into something worth putting the kettle on for.

A recipe for the week: pineapple galette
Graf’s galette starts with a simple pastry and a filling of well-drained canned pineapple, sugar and cinnamon. Fold the pastry around the fruit, leaving the middle open, and bake until golden. There’s an egg wash or a plant-based option for finishing the crust.

Still thinking about: lunch at Phở Anh Vũ

Friday’s lunch plans changed when traffic put an end to my attempt to get from Delta to downtown. I ended up at Phở Anh Vũ on Kingsway instead, and lunch turned out rather well.
My vermicelli plate came loaded with grilled pork, a spring roll, sugarcane shrimp, fresh herbs, vegetables and peanuts. Delicious, super fresh and a very generous portion. The restaurant was super efficient, and despite how busy it was, service was fast and friendly. Exactly the kind of lunch worth remembering when you’re hungry on Kingsway.
In my glass: whisky

The Glenfiddich and Aston Martin collaboration has also been on the reading and tasting list. I’ve put the bottle details and tasting notes into a separate story.

In the driveway: Ford Bronco Sport Big Bend
This week’s vehicle is the 2026 Ford Bronco Sport Big Bend. We’ve been working on a reel before it goes back, with a closer look at the cabin and the details that make a difference during a regular week.
On my radar: Le Tigre × Toki Doki
There’s a little food-truck nostalgia on the menu at Torafuku tonight, October 26, when Le Tigre reunites with Kei Lowes of Tofino’s Toki Doki for a one-night Japanese street-food party. Think grilled cheese mochi skewers, wagyu croquettes and duck ramen alongside Toki Doki’s okonomiyaki and crispy zangi chicken cabbage wraps. And the desserts sound just as intriguing: oolong crème caramel shaved ice and a ginger ice-cream cookie with yuzu marmalade. I haven’t tasted this collaboration, but the menu is enough to make me want a seat at the table. Check reservations for the October 26 event at 958 Main Street.
