What’s Good May 22 Edition

Adventures for the long weekend

Now that I’m working full time, the weekend takes on a whole new meaning, and a three-day weekend is extra welcome as I’ve got lots to catch up on around my always crowded home. I’m off to Le Petit Spa today for a massage, joining David Peng to talk about pairing wines with Liuyishouna Hot Pot, join us live HERE at 5:30 pm, and making some spot prawn ceviche tomorrow after a visit to either Organic Ocean Seafood at Fishermen’s Wharf or F.I.S.H.

Coors Slice

It’s the May 2/4, which Michael has just told me has something to do with cases of beer available in Ontario, which was why Coors released their newest flavour, Coor Slice Grapefruit. To kick off to summer, May 2/4, Coors launched Coors Slice Grapefruit a light, refreshing beer with a hint of grapefruit flavour. It’s subtle, not too sweet, and combines the delicious citrusy flavour of ruby red grapefruit with the refreshing taste of Coors.

What we are really about though is supporting our very local scene and one of our adventures earlier in the month was a night out on the town on the patio of Main Street Brewing to try the new Hula Hula Shake Tropical Milkshake Sour, a Poolside Hazy IPA that closes out the four-beer series they did this May! This makes me miss our backyard growing up in Kelowna, in times when dreams of having an acreage where still alive and my girl pals would live at our pool in the summer. The Hula Hula Shake (5.4% ABV / 12 IBU) — is a Berliner Weisse-styled, slightly sour brew with fresh passionfruit, orange, and guava purée with hints of vanilla and toast.

Top Rope Birria

Get your beer and taco fix at Main Street Brewing from 5-8 pm Saturday and Strange Fellows Brewing from 12-4 pm Sunday with Top Rope Birria taco truck.

In My Kitchen’s Cooking Class with Emily Lycopolus and Danielle Acken, authors of A Rising Tide: A Cookbook of Recipes and Stories from Canada’s Atlantic Coast takes place May 27. We’ll be making Creamy Carbonara Scape Gnocchi – Celebrating the seasons and Atlantic Canada:  Garlic scapes and potatoes, play the main roles in this story of a dish.  This is an incredible book that transports to the East Coast through delicious recipes and enchanting photography.

A Rising Tide
A Rising Tide is a love letter to the culinary renaissance of Canada’s Atlantic Coast written by DL Acken and Emily Lycopolus—both of whom grew up eating classic Atlantic Canadian dishes and spent months in the region exploring its burgeoning food scene. Whether you are discovering the East Coast’s countryside, seaside towns, or bustling cities, there is a thriving food scene, united by a revived culinary identity that celebrates the region’s terroir and marries heritage with innovation.

Enjoy more than 100 inventive recipes, many by beloved local chefs, and travel to meet the fishermen, producers, foragers, and restaurateurs who have come to define the region’s incredible cuisine. Celebrate local ingredients for each meal of the day no matter where you are thanks to the book’s ingredient substitutions guide. Featuring seasonal menus as well as gorgeous landscape and food photography throughout, A Rising Tide is a souvenir and a delicious roadmap to enjoy all of Atlantic Canada’s wonders.
